What Basic X-ray Technologists do?

 
A Basic X-Ray Technician Certificate Program prepares students for careers in hospitals and clinics performing radiologic exams using X-Ray. The College trains students in the proper techniques for using X-Ray equipment and assessing film quality while caring for patients.

Where can I work?

Many positions are available in hospitals, but radiographers may also assume positions in diagnostic imaging centers and physician's offices, Surgical Centers, Cosmetic Surgical Centers, and Offices of dentists.

How long will it take me to complete this training?

This program can be completed in Seven (7) months or 28 weeks and consist of:
 Lecture: 395
 Lab: 145
 Clinical Externship: 110
 Total Clock Hours: 650

MORNING:
Monday – Friday
8 am to 2pm

EVENING
Monday – Friday
6:00pm to 11pm
 
 
 

What skills will I learn?

 
After successfully completing this program, the student will be able to perform the following:
Provide basic patient care.
Demonstrate communication skills.
Demonstrate the ability to provide patient instruction and care as it relates to radiology.
Demonstrate proper radiation protection to patients, self and others.
Demonstrate an understanding of the use of contrast media in radiographic studies.
Demonstrate an understanding of how to properly position patients for prescribed radiographic studies
Demonstrate the ability to operate and maintain radiographic equipment/accessories.
Demonstrate an understanding in selecting the manual technique necessary to produce quality radiographs.
Demonstrate knowledge of how to process radiographic films and maintain processing equipment.
Demonstrate knowledge necessary to evaluate x-ray film quality.
Demonstrate knowledge of how to perform managerial activities.
Demonstrate knowledge of how to develop personal/professional competence.

Licensing
Graduates are eligible to apply to the State of Florida for a Basic X-Ray Machine operator license required for employment in the State of Florida.
